Sad but True...

My obsession will soon be at an end...

i ~Love~ Lost

So with only 4 shows to go, here is MY view of things...

i believe the story of ~Lost~ is the story of ~Life~
My theory is that 'The Island' and 'The Smoke' are one and the same and i see them as representing the 'choices' that life presents us (Which some could label 'God')
My idea is based on the theory that Life is the 'Ultimate Illusion' and NOT a 'Fate~filled ride' but a journey to self~fulfillment based on the choices we make and the beliefs that we hold dear to our Hearts...
I think that perhaps the 'Alternate Reality' represents our 'unrealized' selves trapped in the Illusion, which is also the place of 'Forgetfulness' (Just as we are Reborn we Forget)...
I think that Desmond may represent 'Truth' and that his job is to 'wake' the main characters from their Illusion' which is the 'Alternate Reality'(And therefore in doing so they will 'Remember' and become 'Self~realized')...
Perhaps the 'Smoke' (now John) is only the seemingly 'the bad guy' because he appears to kill off the characters, but in my theory he is actually sending them back to the 'Alternate Reality' (Which is the 'Illusion') and 'Forgetfulness'...
Perhaps the 'Real John' (as himself) represents the journey we all have with our 'Belief' systems and so Jack represents the journey into ones Heart...
In my theory it then follows that 'Whitmore' represents 'The Ego' and so the need to 'control' The Island, for he strives the keep 'The Illusion' alive (Just as the churches of olde with religion?)...
i think perhaps that 'Jacob' was always 'The Smoke' (who is now currently in John's body) and that perhaps the series final scenes/story-lines will be about the choices the main characters will make when forced into a corner with 'Him'... (The Smoke)
i think that we will discover that the 'Alternate Reality' will be revealed to be the 'Choice' that they each have already made about their Lives, and perhaps the heart wrenching bit (at least for me) will be about their seemingly disappearing from the Island which will seem like their deaths, but in 'Reality' their 'Ascension' from 'The Illusion'...
i think that what i have enjoyed most about this series is the way it has made me reflect upon 'My own Life' ... My son (who is also addicted!) believes that we will have a 'surprise twist' in the last show... So my suggestion is perhaps Jack manages to 'Heal' John in 'The Alternate Reality' and/or maybe one of the main characters will decide to stay on the Island... (ie) John???
i will certainly have a 'Lost' space in my Life (Pardon the pun!) once this series has finished X:-( My favorite character has been 'Hurley' (Jorge Garcia) as i felt he represented 'the regular guy' and so gave me some-one to relate to... and i have also enjoyed Jorge's spin off blogs etc that the series has inspired (See my side~bar)

Okay i'll stop and ~Breathe~ now!

*wink*

X;-)

Oh my ... now I wish I'd watched the series! But I think your adroit interpretation says more about you, as a grounded, well-rounded human being, than the programme. :-)

oh god, nolly, i will have to come back to reread this five times and then tell you my two cents. i LOVE everything about lost.

i will say i'm most intrigued by when and where the 'characters' will end up: which 'life'...

and who is good and who is evil: whidmore? not-john? jacob? i think that will be the final surprise.
anyway, i love your take on this and i can't wait to think about it when i don't have to head to bed.

You may well be right. I'm not only watching the series obsessively but also love reading all the analysis and speculating that is being done.

Me, I'm waiting to give my opinion until after the final episode in which we discover everything we thought we knew was wrong.
