My conundrum

co·nun·drum
Pronunciation: \kə-ˈnən-drəm\
Function: noun
Etymology: origin unknown
Date: 1645

1 : a riddle whose answer is or involves a pun
2 a : a question or problem having only a conjectural answer
b
: an intricate and difficult problem

"A conundrum is any issue with two or more diametrically opposed solutions. The fact that two completely different solutions are equally possible, and one is not necessarily "better" than the other results in a conundrum.
Example: Deciding between a situation that has an issue of an ethical 'right' as well as a 'legal' one. Do you choose to satisfy your conscience or the statutory ordinance. "

i have been called up for Jury Duty

sighhhh...

Questionsssss...

Do i have the right to make judgment over another?
Do i believe i should support a legal system that is based on punishment of imprisonment?
(Do i believe that works anyway?)

What is right and what is wrong...
...and is that kind of decision really up to ME to make?
but then if not me, then who?

My (lovely) Doc says that because i question such things
i should consider being a jurer... (Like it's not as if i will be the only one!)
but that for medical reasons he can 'get me off'

if that be my wish...

i can't tell you the spin that this puts me in (as the song title goes!)

Universe... YOU are a cheeky bugga!

Been years since I was on jury duty. Luckily I wasn't chosen for any trial, but it was a week out of my life spent sitting in huge boredom amongst a huge group of equally bored people.

Honey, let the doc get you out of there. Really, you have better things to do, though if I was having a trail, I would want you as one of my jurers, but I am not, so be free. :-). xoxo

Not to add to your Woe, wednesday child. You are there to help the other jurors to make a decision. By voicing your view of a situation. You never really pass judgement per se on any individual. The Jury Captain passes the collective whole of the jury to the Judge, the Judge makes his decision based on these combined views which the Jury Captain(steward) reads to the judge.

You sit and listen to dissertation and voice your opinions in private and quickly change your mind a hundred times behind a closed door.

When all is said and done you have helped provide a very important function for the Justice system. You have done a civil service, how many times do you get to do that, everytime you stop at a red light or stop sign. Not Much there at the stop sign, but you did allow someone to go before you.

The legal system started a thousand years before the Magna Carta, and the Nordics used to call it The Thing.

So do the Thing. If your in need of an adult real life fairy tale with Lyrics from a Musical added about a people whom Massacred each other individually and atoned for it. Read The Story of Burnt Njal, you will never look at another Jury the same.

I was so glad I didn't get picked when I was called for jury duty. It was hours of stultifying boredom, just waiting for things to begin!

I can't tell you whether to go or stay, but if it was me, I'd ask my doctor to get me off it. There's a lot of sitting involved, I'd be as stiff as a log!

I'm pretty sure my cat Tiger looks a lot like this when he's wearing his true face. He's kind of special.

Gee I am with Tusk. When I was called up I felt fine about it. We need intelligent people on jury - not just ones that don't have anything better to do. I was disappointed that I wasn't picked for the trial. It would have been a unique experience.

So we are bored. So what?
