Watching the Kookaburra's tear HUGE worms out of the damp ground this morning reminded me of a funny little story from the other day...
i have always wondered about the *magic* of 'worm~fishing' and how the heck birds know just where to find them all the ways underneath the earth? So anyway this particular day i was walking through my lounge room (Where my big English windows are) and i caught sight in the back yard of a kookaburra 'worm~fishing' and just as the thought entered my mind yet again "How tha hoolabar do they do that?"...i was distracted by one of my neighbors chooks (the one that regularly escapes her chook yard) madly racing across the garden (in hysterical cartoon fashion!) after the Kookaburra's wormy breakfast! (That was still incidentally half in and half out of the ground!) The Kooka quickly took flight, worm in beak and i laughed to myself as the silly ol' chook looked up at the bird in flight (i recon) in disgusted fashion and then proceeded to madly peck at the still warm space that the poor worm had just vacated...
And you know what? i could've sworn i heard that chooky mumble under her breath... "Just how tha heck do they do THAT anyways!?!"
*GiGGLe*
(Ps) If you squint you might just be able to make out (in the shabby photo above) one Kookaburra in the Pear tree and another on the clothes line (With belly's full of this morning's catch no doubt!)
X;-)
