...and we have a winner!!!

Viewed wins 12th Melbourne Cup for Bart Cummings

Viewed has won the $5.5 million Melbourne Cup with Bauer in second and C'est La Guerre in third.

Viewed survived a desperate photo finish to give master trainer Bart Cummings his 12th Melbourne Cup.

Viewed, ridden by Blake Shinn, just outlasted a spirited final burst from Bauer, with C'est La Guerre third.

"A nice win,'' Cummings said in his usual laconic manner.

Yes down here in AussyLand, in Melbourne

We have a race that stops a nation

The "Melbourne Cup" horse race of the year

We have a public holiday for it too X:-)

(Even radiation treatment stops for a day!)

Every year we have a little family 'flutter'

a little family sweep...

and this year Bryce won 1st and 3rd ($7)

and i won 2nd ($3)

...and then i went out in the sunshine

and added my juicing scraps to the compost heap

with a couple of handfuls over the fence for my neighbours chooks

They are so sweet and come running over when i call

My neighbour 'saved' them from a hen battery

and they are so grateful

you can almost see the smiles

on their little chook faces...

Here chook, chook, chook X;-)

(PS) My American friends ~GOOD LUCK~ at the polls tomorrow

Don't forget to vote... for ALL of us X:-)

I love, love, love chooks. They are the cutest, cuddliest little furry friends you can ask for. (Yes they are cuddly!!) Yay to your neighbour for rescuing them and yay to you for giving them food love!!

If I won lotto I would by a flagpole and an Aussie flag and an Eglu to house some chooks. Those Eglus are soooo expensive you have to practically take out a second mortgage!

Sweetmango I just love, love, love chooks too. I have a picture of me cuddling a chook at a medieval feast night.

National Holiday for horse racing? WOW-that must be some kind of horse race.
Chook-a different word for me-we say hen or chicken or chick here in the USA. I like chook better!

Thanks for visiting my blog and becoming a follower-I really appreciate that! I signed up to be a follower on your blog as well.

Yes, I VOTED already today-stood in line for 1 hour-not too bad-got there at 7am. I'm excited about this election like no other since I've been able to vote!

I hope that you are doing well and I will continue to include you and your family in my prayers.

Much love and respect,
Blessings!
Leslie

I voted this morning, too. Stood in line about 45 minutes but it was worth it to cast my vote for Obama! An overwhelming percentage of people in my state voted for McCain but I believe in my heart that Obama will get the votes he needs to become our next President.
Hugs,
Nancy

Hi V-

we're all biting our nails here watching CNN as they have said they will not call states until the votes have actually been COUNTED....

THanks for the good wishes on that one. We need them.

Love the chooks... chickens?

And I was mainly writing to tell you that I had started to send you a little something and we went away and I NOW will be getting to it before I leave again next Wednesday -- that trip is to NYC. Have a class I'm taking there that meets every month but I go only about 4 times a year - I'm a distance learner as they call it. I will have to figure out when it will get there to tell you when to keep an eye out.

HUGS in the mean time!
