What Charles de Lint makes me think...

Via his book ~Tapping the Dream Tree~

Quotes from his book (CDL) and images this book has evoked for me lately:

Botticelli... sighhhh...

Quantum physics... talking ~Quarks~
Pic courtesy of Derek Leinweber (CSSM)

"But what about quantum physics and this whole business about observable phenomena that scientists are studying now? They're saying that things like quarks only take on a discernible identity when they're being observed." CDL

...Really??? ...Is that like the idea that "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" Hmmmm...
We could expand on that and talk about the nature of oUr relationship
...yOu and mE, out here in the ~Never-Never~ Just where are we anyway? When we converse like this... And just what *magic* drew us nearer to each other?... i wonder...

Students Copying Art in the Louvre...
Louvre Gallery. Engraving by Winslow Homer, 1867.

About the nature of 'copying' (*Note all the greatest artists did it!) i mean how else does a budding artist learn anyway?...

"...Anything really good is always different. Unique. You might start out aiming to copy something, but if it's got any heart, if it's got any real spirit, it'll be something else again when it's done. It'll be it's own thing." CDL

*i personally think far too many artists get caught up in the *fear* of the 'copyist'...
i once had an artist scream at me at an art fair because she thought i was taking notes in lieu of copying her art (!!!) Which i wasn't of course, but she was so caught up in her fear that she could not ~hear~ me... i think, like Suzi Blu has said before about people imitating her art... Copy until you find your own thing and then go with that...

You will create your own artistic identity if you are being true to yourself and your art and people will recognize you by that...

~Be True To Thine Own He-Art~

Above: Zom Osbourne magic

..."So will you take me? I ask. Or at least show me the way?
That was never in question, he tells me.
The trick to magic is that it lies in between. In between what? It almost doesn't matter. It just has to be in between. Not blue or yellow, but green. Not sun or moon, but the light of dusk. Not river or land, but the bridge that spans the water" CDL

*i know this to be true for i tOO have been to such places...
...and all it takes, it seems to me anyway, is a ~leap~ of faith, a suspension of disbelief and a certain amount of curiosity...
You don't actually have to ~believe~ in anything, for magic itself just ~is~
...in the ~inbetween~

Ahhh the random thoughts that you are inspired to think (and share! pOOr yOu! Lol!) from a gOOd book on a cOOL and cloudy day X:-)

Magic is what happens when we stop trying to control it all.

I find it complementry when someone wants to copy me....and I always look for something I can use to play with in other peoples work. And I have copied too (but said so) and its never the same in the end. Thats what inspirsation is all about isnt it?

But I wouldnt like it if someone took mine and said it was theirs.

Insightful post NollyP, glad its cool down thetre for you and thankyou for all the lovely comments today:0)

the books sounds very cool. It used to be that physics was my hobby. And then somewhere along the way I got too busy to read much anymore.

Thank you for this stimulating little journey! It amazes me how truly talented Zom is, isn't she? I mean!!! Wow.

And I am glad to hear Suzi Blu say that. She really knows how to encourage people... just like someone else I know (YOU).
